PennDOT and the Bureau of State Employment are gearing up for the Winter Maintenance Program. PennDOT recruits many candidates for Transportation Equipment Operator Positions. Employees in these jobs are responsible for snow removal within the county. These positions require six months experience with manual transmission vehicles, and a Class B CDL with air brake restriction lifted. Drug and alcohol testing is also required.
The transportation equipment operator positions are temporary full-time positions that can start in September and last until the end of March. The work is full-time, and drivers work on other projects during good weather. The Equipment Operators earn $11.97 per hour with the potential for overtime and shift differential pay. While working in these temporary positions operators earn seniority and are eligible to bid on permanent Commonwealth positions as they become available.
Applications are being accepted for all counties. The counties that usually face difficulties filling openings for the Winter Maintenance Program include: Adams, Allegheny, Dauphin, Franklin, Lackawanna, Lancaster, Lebanon, Luzerne, Northampton, Pike, Wayne, and York counties.
